At a recent Scout Leader meeting it was mentioned that the Cubs were after a solution to light the mess tents at night without always having to use the gas lanterns. As a self proclaimed specialist in LED lighting and solar power I volunteered my services to seek a solution. My brief was to find six units that have a built in battery and can be charged via USB.
I put together the following package, separately sourcing six LED light units, a six port USB charger and a suitable carry case to hold it all together.
The main units are waterproof IP65 rechargeable LED lights with a massive 8800mAh internal battery. They have a powerbank capability allowing you to emergency charge other equipment by the 2.1A USB output.
With different lighting modes the 4W LED output is very impressive and states the following in the manual:
- 170 hours at low brightness
- 60 hours at middle brightness
- 18 hours at high brightness
- SOS mode
After a chat with my fellow directors at Fish Media, we decided to put this package together and donate it to the Scout Group. I’ll add some photos of the units in use soon as we have a few nights away planned in October.
Update: A few pictures of the LED lights in use on Scout Camp …
